The issue of ozone depletion and global warming in the past decades has led people to invent more environment-friendly stuffs like the gas fireplace logs. The classic chimney that we have before consumes too many woods and leaves ashes in our fireplace. In addition, it requires more space that is no longer fit in 21st century houses.
Gas fireplace logs are new generation fireplaces that do not require woods to heat up the house but instead use natural gas or propane as its fuel. The idea of inventing this is to make the house warm without harming the environment and at the same time keeping the traditional fireplace ambience and the architectural appeal of the house. This modern fireplace can only be installed by an HVAC technician because it involves gases that can start fire. Often times, permit must be secured from local government offices to have this fireplace system installed.

It can be classified into two, the vented and the vent-free. The vented gas logs are designed to mimic the classic fireplace and use yellow flame to make it look real. This type has its own ventilation system like the old chimney. This is for those who are nostalgic about the wood-burning place but want to help the environment. The next type is the vent-free gas logs which are designed for small spaces like condominium units and apartments. This was invented to bring the traditional fireplace in the urban setting without the worry of where to put the ventilation. It has blue flame for complete fuel combustion to zero out carbon emission since urban houses are often close.

The gas fireplace logs have several advantages like easy installation, energy efficient, environment-friendly, no ashes and dirt, and many more. The only drawback in these appliances is it produces moisture. Propane and natural gas do not emit any pollution but their end product is water. This can lead to accumulation of moisture inside the house even if you have the vented type. This can be easily remedied by putting an affordable dehumidifier system or a very cheap moisture capture unit inside the house.
Aside from the high-tech gadget and state-of-the-art equipments, the gas fireplace logs are one of the wonder inventions in our modern time. It helps the environment by still letting us experience the traditional fireplace that we have when we where children but has the modern touch to fit in our daily urban life.
